Caribou gave a very good account of himself in the Class 2 Dubai Duty Free Full Of Surprises Handicap over a straight seven furlongs at Newbury this afternoon. He was in touch in the centre of a large field of sixteen, and was then pushed along entering the final furlong with jockey Hollie Doyle reporting that he did not let himself down on the ground which was too firm for him this time. By the post he finished fifth of the large field, only beaten just over four lengths. The Nasir Askar colt would certainly respond much better with more ease in the ground, so next time he will be looking for some cut and conditions which will allow him to show his finishing speed to full effect. This was definitely a high calibre Newbury handicap field today, and a race which is sure to produce plenty of progressive winners as the season unfolds.
