MY AMBITION WINS OVER A MILE AT NEWBURY
In the last race on yesterday evening's card Denis had found an opportunity to race My Ambition after his break since the start of the year. Although the loose topped going didn't really suit him, the claiming jockey Aidan Keeley was able to get a real tune out of the chesnut gelding off a very light weight to come with a winning run up the stand rail through the final quarter mile of the race. The young jockey had had the winner of the first contest, an apprentice sprint, so this made a memorable double for him at the prestigious Berkshire track. My Ambition really didn't settle well in the early stages of the straight mile, and Aidan held him right at the back of the field from the widest of draws. Still at the back of the field with three to race he came off the bridle as the tempo quickened, but he was able to switch him right towards the rail and then My Ambition came with a sustained run to go from last to first and secure a very welcome win for the son of Galileo Gold. With a win under his belt the summer ground should now present further opportunities, perhaps over seven furlongs or a mile in the near future.
