Exciting debut run from Mucho Macho in Newbury Novice
Nasir Askar's colt was noted as an eyecatcher over the straight six furlongs at Newbury in the opening race of Thursday evening's card. With a clear run and a straighter route through he would nearly have won on his racecourse debut, closing fast inside the final furlong to sweep into contention late on and claim fourth place by the line. Beaten just over two lengths, he had been slowly away from a high draw and had raced towards the back of the field but on the stands side. Into the last quarter mile he picked up well, but went left and then had to follow a group into the final stages of the race. There is every hope that he will be winning very soon and this was quite an impressive first day on the track.
