PARTY ISLAND SO UNLUCKY IN HIS FOLLOW UP BID : NOW AN EIGHT TIME WINNER!
Having cruised to victory over a mile and half of the all weather track at Lingfield at the start of the month, marking his eighth career win and yet another under George Bass, the same pair made a bid to follow up at the same Surrey course just nine days later over ten furlongs on the turf. Travelling seriously well from the rear of the field, George found he had a lot of horse left all the way up the home straight. Every way he looked for an opening the door closed throughout the last quarter mile behind several rivals, and he has to go down as a very very unlucky loser, much to the frustration of connections. He is clearly in fine form at present, so another opportunity will be sought for Party Island quite soon.
In a round up of other runners, it was a gentle reintroduction for Gentle Whinny at Windsor, the rain softened ground having gone against her, and she travelled well for Oisin Murphy - just getting a bit tired in the home straight on her seasonal bow. Milvus had to suffer a wide draw at Lingfield and race a little far back afterwards, so that he was not in contention but finished off his race strongly over seven furlongs to be beaten just half a dozen lengths. Phoenix Moon completed her third run, this time at Salisbury, but after waiting a spell in the stalls she really didn't settle at all, and absolutely hated the heavy ground so that the uphill second half of the race saw her finish beaten a long way. Now she will wait for a chance on much better ground.
