Gentle Whinny outsprinted in last quarter mile
In the first race of yesterday's evening card at Lingfield Park, Gentle Whinny wore a visor for the first time and went as second top weight in a twelve furlong handicap under George Bass. She was racing in very good position throughout the first mile, and in close contention turning into the straight, when George looked for an inside line to make her run. In these last two furlongs she was done for a turn of pace, however, and ultimately was three lengths back from the winner in a blanket finish for the minor placings - noses separating 4th 5th and 6th on the line. It is felt that a stiffer turf track would suit her running style much better, so that is where she will be aimed next.
