Golden Phase just misses out in her hat-trick bid
After her two Bath wins, Golden Phase stepped up in grade and trip to take on an eleven furlong apprentice handicap at her local track. Under a waiting ride from West Ilsley based apprentice Rose Dawes, Golden Phase travelled very well just behind half way in an eleven runner field. Her white blaze prominent, moving up strongly in the home straight, she didn't get a clear run three furlongs from home, so that she was twice switched to her right and then threaded through a gap between two rivals to move into contention. As the leader wandered left she had to switch right once more inside the last furlong, before finishing strongly and closing to within three quarters of a length by the winning post. Staying the trip strongly, in a time over half a second faster than the standard, there is every encouragemant to think that the Gustav Klimt filly will go very close once again next time out.
