Phoenix Moon goes so very close at Lingfield Park
The Keeper's 12 syndicate went very close indeed to yet another victory with their long line of successful horses trained by Denis. Phoenix Moon returned to the scene of her last victory in November, under the same jockey Tyler Heard. This time they had the significant disadvantage of being drawn nine of nine runners, which meant that despite breaking well, Phoenix Moon was obliged to take an outside course throughout the race. Inevitably this meant that she had to run a good bit further than her other rivals around the tight track, and yet she moved up into strong contention early in the straight. Tyler felt that she finished off her six furlong race very strongly, and in a driving finish up against lead horses under Tom Queally and David Egan, this time Tyler just came up short in the photo finish - with Phoenix Moon beaten just two heads into third place. The time of the race was quite good, and the finishing speed that Phoenix Moon showed to close out the run confirms that she is looking stronger and just as speedy at the start of her four year old campaign. The grey filly took the race very well and is sure to be out again quite soon, hoping for a better draw and run of the race to reward her excited connections.
