Across the past week horses from the yard have made their season debuts at a variety of tracks, from Doncaster to Lingfield and Salisbury. On Saturday at Doncaster Barry's Boy dwelt a little from the start and then didn't really like the good to firm ground, so that he hung a little from a straight line, and had he kept to a better course he may well have got up into second in his race. This time he had to make do with a close up fourth place. nearest at the finish, but it was another very promising effort from the gelding who should find a winning chance soon on nicer ground. Hoornblower also made fourth at Lingfield, not managing to find the turn of foot that had seen him win last season's opener. He was made favourite but wasn't able to get into the frame this time.  Yesterday at Salisbury Golden Phase ran a fine race over ten furlongs, facing up to a small field of horses with higher ratings than she has. Travelling well from the back of the field, Tyler Heard took her into the lead with a quarter mile to run, and she would certainly have benefitted from being held in behind a little longer. In the end she was just outpointed in the final strides to go down only by a head in second well clear of the remainder, but the feeling was that with a better waiting ride she would have won readily, with the trip and the ground ideal for this improving filly. All the horses from the yard appear to be in good order, and certainly the home work will soon translate into more track successes.
