Phoenix Moon goes so close to following up at Southwell
Phoenix Moon and My Ambition, the pair that had notched the Lingfield double earlier in the month for Oisin Murphy, both headed up to Southwell to race there for the first time. Phoenix Moon ran a great race after having anticipated the break and she dwelt a little. She moved up to great effect inside the last two furlongs, however, getting to the front readily and only succumbing to a late surge from a three year old - switching from Dermot Weld's in Ireland and looking to be on a very handy mark with the handicapper. Phoenix Moon retains her very good form and Oisin was very pleased with her really willing attitude in racing, which augurs well for future successes.
My Ambition was sent off favourite and ran a pleasing race, but he was just unable to quicken into the last quarter mile, maybe the tapeta suiting him less well than the polytrack at Lingfield. Perhaps three races for him in quick succession mean that he needs a break, before assessing whether he should race again this term.
Going down to Bath, Hoornblower ran a very good race over a mile, looking to defy long odds as he moved up into third by the two pole. Ultimately he faded a little in the closing stages to finish a good fifth, and so now might be the time to try him over a longer trip, and he is likely to look for a mile and quarter race for his next run.
