Saumur notched her second win after a smooth step up to 2m 5f in the Matchbook Casino Novices Handicap Hurdle. Denis had agreed with both Aidan Coleman and her regular partner Jonny Burke that Saumur would benefit from some summer racing ground and from a step up in trip. This proved to be the case as she went well in mid division around the first circuit, and then moved forward readily from three out. Bypassing the second last the field swung left to leave her in pole position and she was obliged to take it up going to the last hurdle. Then it was a case of digging very deep for Saumur as she entered unknown territory and as she was challenged by the gutsy Miss Malarkey, carrying two stone less than Saumur shouldering 11st 7lbs.. In the last 75 yds she did assert to win well by half a length, much to the delight of the Sparkling Partners and the beaming trainer too.
